It's easier to ignore these "hoodlums" than it is to take the few minutes they so desperately need for attention. Sadly, the attention they crave can just be eye contact. <br /><br />In my profession, I see so many of my peers quick to point out all the bad they see in their troubled students. I've learned some hard lessons in my job. One of the most profound ones I have learned is, how you treat a kid is the way they'll act. I try hard to see something good in all my kids. Let me tell you, sometimes it's REALLY hard to find. Many days are hardly than others. However, it truly is worth it when you see them succeed.<br /><br />Sometimes, kids need for your attention can be so overwhelming. Getting wrapped up in the day-to-day can do exactly that, wrap you up. Stop what you're doing, make eye contact with them, being genuinely interested in what they're doing, and talk to them.
